Response 1: Times Have Changed

As I approach my 61st year on this planet I’ve been thinking about just how much has changed over the past half a century. The world seemed a simpler place when I was a lad. People would know their neighbours by name. Children would give up their seats for the elderly on buses. What’s happened to good old fashioned family values and decency? Last Monday I found myself catching the tram into town. I grabbed the only seat available next to a twenty something person sporting a red Mohican. I label them a person because I genuinely couldn’t tell if it was a male or a female. They were preoccupied with texting someone on their iPhone whilst a monotonous beat was pumping out of their earphones. I glanced at their screen to see ‘C U L8R M8’. My old English teacher would have had a fit! How times have changed…

  1. Wonderful! I think everyone would have sympathy with the sentiments in this piece. Times have changed, some for the better, some for the worst. I imagine that as one gets towards the end of life it becomes more comforting to view the past through rose tinted glasses.
