After months of planning, the day had arrived. Greg took his seat in the audience, fidgeting nervously. Everything had been planned meticulously but fear of failure still gripped him hard.
Greg was a hacker, an extraordinary one. At 12, he hacked into his school network. At 15 he’d cleared his police record of a drunken misdemeanour. There probably wasn’t a server he couldn’t breach but he wasn’t stupid – some organisations like banks and the military were off-limits; the repercussions were unthinkable.
His pal Gary came up with the idea. It was ingenious. Hack into Celador’s systems and rig Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. After securing Gary a contestant slot on the show, he wrote an algorithm to generate the ‘random’ questions. Answers memorised, all Gary had to do now was win ‘fasters fingers first’ something he’d practiced for 6 months.
“Gary Hopkins!” cried Chris Tarrant.
