Response 3: The ripple effect

95.4% of history as we know it is wrong!

That’s the slogan at RealTime Ventures, my employers. The year is 3046 and I fear we won’t see another after yesterday’s events.

Let me explain:

I’m a historian tasked with updating the erroneous digital archives left by previous generations. Time travel became possible a century ago when we harnessed worm holes in space. Military classified at first, restrictions were lifted and the government deemed that correcting our understanding of history was the best use of this capability.

“Observe, don’t interact”. That was the rule drummed into us. We knew the potential consequences. A moment of madness saw me change the world forever. We were in Srebrenica in July 1995 observing a mass shooting. A young boy peeled from the crowd, heading towards me. Instinctively, I sheltered him.

Upon our return the world I knew had changed forever.

What have I done?
