Response 2: Over the top

Sweating, panting, grunting, dripping . Boots soaking wet. Cagoule like a dishcloth. Fleece stuck to T-shirt. T-shirt glued to skin.

Eyes set firmly on the horizon. The top, sneaking into view. At last. The top. Craggy rocks. Tufts of grass. River of shale. Solitary Rowan tree. Desolate looking sheep.

Beyond the top, the next valley. Golden sunshine. Stunning vistas. Sylvan valley and azure blue tarn. Beyond the top.

Not far now. A few hundred steps. The top, looming larger. Ever larger. Not far now.

Sweating, panting, grunting, dripping . Boots soaking wet. Cagoule like a dishcloth. Fleece stuck to T-shirt stuck. T-shirt glued to skin.

The top. Nearly there. Just a few hundred steps. Golden sunshine. Stunning vistas. Just a hundred steps. Nearly there.

Peering over the ridge. No Sylvan Valley. No azure blue tarn. No stunning vistas.

Just another feckin’ top.

Not far now. A few hundred steps …
